Listed Activities in terms of the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998 as amended requires either a Basic Assessment or a Scoping and Full EIA process. Three listing notices were published with listed activities that determine which process need to be undertaken. KEMS can provide these services in terms of Environmental Assessments.
Mining related applications in terms of the Mineral Petroleum Resources Development Act No. 28 of 2002 as amended requires a process in terms of NEMA as part of the One Environmental Management System. KEMS can provide these services.
Water Use related activities listed in Section 21 of the National Water Act No. 36 of 1998 requires authorization. This includes activities such as abstraction of water, diverting or impeding the flow of a river, irrigation of contaminated water and the storage of contaminated water. KEMS can provide these services.
Any activity for retail sales and storage of fuel with a capacity less than the triggering activities in the NEMA regulations requires an EMP to be submitted to the Department of Minerals and Energy. KEMS can provide these services.
Sometimes an applicant would develop without knowledge that they will be triggering a listed activity in terms of NEMA. In such cases, a Section 24G rectification application will be needed by the specific competent authority. KEMS can provide these services.
Activities within a riparian area that would normally trigger a Basic Assessment process could be undertaken without such a process if it is for maintenance purposes. This includes removal of alien invasive plant species, rehabilitation and reshaping of eroded banks. KEMS can provide these services.
Most developments will require some sort of Biodiversity input. Biodiversity input is determined by the National Screening tool published by the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and the Environment (DFFE). Specialist studies include Terrestrial biodiversity assessments, Fauna assessments, Avi-fauna assessments, Wetland assessments, Ridges studies, Alien invasive management plans and Orange data plant relocation plans. KEMS can provide these services.
Heritage Impact Assessment are required in terms of Section 38 of the National Heritage Resources Act 25 of 1999. As per Section 38, any activity on an area greater than 5000 square metres must be subject to a Phase 1 Heritage impact assessment. Linear activities also requires a Heritage impact Assessment.
Other activities such as relocation of graves and demolishing of significant buildings requires a Phase 2 Heritage impact assessment. KEMS can provide these services.
Storm water Management Plans are needed for Water use licenses and for various other activities such as filling stations and larger developments with high surface runoff figures. Projects also need layout plans to be submitted with applications. KEMS can provide these services.
Activities listed under the National Environmental Management :Waste Act No. 59 of 2008 requires a Basic Assessment or Scoping and full EIA process. This includes activities such as storage of waste, processing of waste and disposal of significant quantities of waste. KEMS can provide these services.
